Energizer Hard Case Tango Tactical Helmet Light

You can be forgiven in thinking that Energizer just made batteries. Let’s face it, we have all seen that bunny and its ability to keep on going. But Energizer also has a lighting division that supplies light in the forms of traditional handheld flashlights, hands-free lights, area lighting, novelty and tactical- who knew.  Energizer Holdings, Inc., headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of primary batteries and portable lighting products through the companies recognised brands Energizer®, EVEREADY®, Rayovac®, and VARTA®.

As a global branded distributor of consumer products, their mission is to lead the charge to deliver value to their customers and consumers better than anyone else.

Looking around our gear room for products to review this issue, we recently came across the Energizer Hard Case Tango. After spending some time with the Tactical Helmet Light, we soon realised that this is one serious helmet light that should not be ignored. We have to report straight off the bat that this unit is quite pricy but in our opinion, well worth the investment. Featuring an array of light sources, that fall into both the visible and non-visible spectrum. The visible consists of white and red light in various brightness and flashing modes, while the non-visible range features infra-red illuminator to pair with NVGs and an IR IFF beacon with three different flashing patterns.

Designed with an operator in mind, the unit is exceptionally tactile with easy to operate pressure and turn switches even while wearing gloves.

Its lightweight polymer case means its durable and will easily withstand the rigours of the Skirmish Field.  The light sources are all LEDs, so there is no chance of a bulb blowing. However, in the unlikely event of an LED failure, the unit is covered by a  lifetime warranty. It has been drop tested to 3 metres and it’s also waterproof to 1 metre for 30 minutes the power supply comes in the shape of a single AA battery – Energiser of course.

A tactical torch is only as good as its light source, durability and operating time but equally, it has to stay on. The Tango comes supplied with many useful mounting attachments to take care of this:

  • An Elasticated Rotatable Head Strap
  • A Rotatable Helmet Mount which allows the light to rotate through 360° in 18° increments and locks into the desired position. Mounts to either side of the helmet and does not protrude below the rim
    • A Picatinny Mount to attach it to a compatible rail
    • A Mollé/Vest Mount with integrated magnets to attach it securely to Mollé webbing or a ferromagnetic metallic surface such as a vehicle • A Cap/Clip Mount which connects to the brim of a cap or a tactical vest, pocket, epaulette or belt etc. It is also compatible with the Klick Fast/Airwaves system [via an RSTUDBELTCLIP adaptor]
