What a difference a year makes

Hello, did you all have a good Christmas? I can't tell you if I did because its late November as I'm sitting here writing this forward. By the time this issue hits the shops Christmas would have come and gone and no doubt you will already thinking about your first skirmish of 2007. Looking back to last Januarys issue we were looking forward to taking Ai monthly in our run up to news trade distribution and I was speculating on the out come of the VCR Bill- What a difference a year makes- Last year I was talking about mile stone, this year is no exception as Ai have teamed up with a number of companies to launch the Ai 300. I can't go into too much detail, but it's going to be one hell of a 48 hour game which will include the largest amount of working military vehicles ever seen on a skirmish field. Believe me when I tell you its going to be the biggest and most interactive "Big Game" that the UK has ever seen. Don't worry if your one of our overseas readers, because the plan is to take the Ai 300 in Europe and then the US

December 2006

The future is ours It only seems like yesterday, that was I sitting in front of my PC wondering what to write for the foreword of the Christmas 05 issue, and now we're here again. It's certainly been a year to remember for us here in the British Airsoft Community; we launched ourselves into 06 not knowing if there would be an industry left by the end of the year? But look at us now. The ABA successfully contested the VCR bill and gains an exception by regulation

The Airsoft scene here in the UK has never looked better. Site operators are reporting an increase in new business as are the retailers and Christmas is just around the corner.

Don't you just love this time of year? I bet there are a few of you "fair weather" players out there that don't" come on guys it's only a bit of mud; get stuck in, the gear your wearing was designed to handle it, so you guys can

Yowl, Yowl, Yowl! Stop the presses, have you heard the news? Check out http://www.ai-mag.com/vcr.html where you can read it for yourself. The ABA have achieved what they set out to do which was to challenge the VCR bill (which threatened our hobby) and allow us as law abiding citizens to purchase AEG and pistols to use on the skirmish field.

Over the past months I've got to know Tim Wybourn (Founder member of the ABA) pretty well and I can honestly say that I have never meet such a motivated, focused individual whose passion for Airsoft is only matched by his passion for getting wet in Land Rovers.

During one of our many late night telephone conversations Tim informed me that one of the reasons behind his dedication to fighting the VCR bill for all of us was that

"It's a human rights thing, when my boys are old enough I want them to be able to decide if they want to play or not and not have that basic right taken away from them"

September 2006

Well what can I say? It seems we've all been here before, issues seem to blur into one these days. Ai is a roaring success, that's down to you guys, so from the bottom of my heart I would like to thank all of our readers for their support I know that we've taken our eye off the ball with the Ai IFF patches, we simply cant keep up with the demand, so for those who are waiting, the good news is that the next batch is inbound from the US and should be with us pretty soon The War and Peace show was a resounding success not only for Ai, but also for the splattering of retailers that were there.

The ABA is a short time managed to pull off what can only be described as a kick ass CQB arena, which seemed to be one of the main attractions at this years War and Peace, it was a great PR exercise for Air soft and as one of the sponsors I would personally like to thank all of those that gave up their time to build and man the arena. Airsoft Magazine August 2006

Volume 2, Issue 3     (Limited availability)

August 2006

Well hello again and, welcome back, as usual it's been one hell of a month for us here at Ai. We've been extremely busy puppies this month so much so that at times it felt like we were going backwards, then time sped up and before we knew it the deadline was spanking us right in the face.

Talk about hitting? Again we have been overwhelmed with the response to the Ai IFF patch offer (we'd better stock up with some more Ai goodie bags) please bare with us as we have had to place another order with our badge manufacture to keep up with the demand.

I've got to let you guy's into a little secret (shhhhh don't tell anyone) on second thoughts I cant, your going to have to turn the page and read for yourselves, or are you? it might be in this issue it might not. Alright then okay let's just say its got something to do with a rather rare piece of real deal kit, which looks like its going to be produced in collaboration with Ai that's all I can say, my lips are sealed, zipped shut, your not going to get anything out of me.

July 2006

Hello there, what a month its been for us here at Ai it was like going back in time to where we first launched Ai into the Airsoft Community. The doubt sent in a few times, the knees went weak on the odd occasion and the palms definitely perspired were we right to launch an Airsoft magazine? The answer to that question was most definitely YES. Thanks to our supported and more importantly our readers Ai became the most successful Airsoft Magazine to be published in the UK . Infact we have gone where no other attempt to publish an Airsoft magazine has ever gone. Now Ai is the news trade which was a massive leap of faith, all of our concerns disappeared as we soon realised that there was a market out side the Airsoft Community. This issue of Ai has now also gone on sale through Europe. So I would like to welcome our European friends to the part. Pull up a chair guys because your going to be in for one hell of a ride

April 2006

BACK IN STOCK

Hello there, welcome back to AI. Phew what a month it's been, retailers are reporting that they are rushed off their feet after what was seen by the industry as a slow start to the year. Could it be that players are stocking up in preparation for the outcome of the VCR bill? Who knows, but we've got the latest news from the ABA and their meeting with the Home Office (turn to page 33).

Wow did you guys see the Daily Telegraph on the 6th February? All we can say is what a top man Philip Johnston is. The 980 word article is a well written, informative piece which highlights the injustice of the VCR bill (in it's present form).

"If Mr Blair really wants to show his commitment to the law-abiding citizen, he should give the airsofters a break."

Philip Johnston The Daily Telegraph

March 2006

It seems surreal sitting here writing the Forward for the January issue mid way through November. By the time this issue reaches the retailers Christmas would have come and gone some of you would have already been out for your first skirmish of the New Year and no doubt played with all of your new toys

Boy what a year we've got ahead of us

Unconfirmed reports suggest that we will know the full extent of the VCR bill by April. Will there be a British Airsoft Industry after the VCR Bill comes into effect? Who know? Turn to page 36 and find out how the ABA is working with the government to push for exceptions.

The new year will also see a mile stone event for us here at AI as we go monthly in our lead up to our news trade circulation. As always we are on the look out for a few good people. If you think you've got what it takes to join the AI crew please drop me a email paul@ai-mag.com with an example of your work.
