It's Christmas!!!!!!

Looking back over an action packed year

Don't you just love this time of year? I guess it's the big kid in me. Christmas is coming and the Ai team are getting fat (well some of us are) I can't remember the last full game day I played? Some of the team would argue that's it's because I spend far to long gearing up in the safe zone, but if the truth be know I tend to spend my times these day talking to you our readers and I wouldn't change that for the world, because lets face it with out you guys Ai would not be the success it is today

Well here we are, the first of October cam and went and the VRC Bill is now the VCR act here in the UK and now its illegal for Airsoft Retailers here in the Uk to sell you an Airsoft rifle or pistol unless you are a registered Skirmisher. That also includes private sale. One forum that seems to be leading the way here in the UK is http://airsoftuk.invisionzone.com as they will soon have up and running a secure server which will only allow registered skirmishers to access where you will be able to sell and buy second hand rifles and pistols in confidence, what's more Ai have teamed up with them to offer a classified section for our readers in which we will be publishing the for sale and wants section in a special classified section in the next few issues

October 2007

Its time to get registered As the VRC Bill turns into the VRC Act on the 1st October it is vital here in the UK for Airsoft Skirmishers (you) to register at your Skirmish Site. Skirmish Sites are at the heart of the scheme, as only through membership of a legitimate Airsoft site can an individual demonstrate their entitlement to the specific defence granted to Airsoft Skirmishers The Government has determined that a 'legitimate' site is one that holds third-party insurance. This is important, because only members of a site or club with valid third party insurance can claim to be "Airsoft skirmishers" for the purposes of the defence. It is therefore vital that sites ensure that they have up-to-date third-party liability insurance before the 1st of October if they wish to register their members

CBL-tastic!

A big thank you to Ai readers for making the launch of the AiM C.B.L. an amazing success in fact it seems you guys can't get enough of 'em!

No sooner had the Gen I garments landed than they were straight out of the door, and these stocks have now become limited. (And speaking of limited stocks, the AiM IFF Patches have gone in backorder again, but another batch is winging its way to us as I type). We've ordered a new batch of CBLs, and following some great feedback from our readers, the Gen II CBL will be even more radically designed in order to further meet your needs on the skirmish field. Hundreds of you have asked if we plan to produce the CBL in ACU or Multicam and for now, I'm afraid, the answer is no. Multicam camouflage is a licensed product, and although we can buy the licence to produce it, the cost would soar dramatically defeating the object of producing a cost-effective shirt in the first place.

Don't you just love LA!

The crew attend the weekend of heroes show in l.a. and, in between meeting girls from hooters and accepting challenges to kick ass on the skirmish field, they actually meet a hero or two...

L ast month the crew jetted off to LA to fly the British Airsoft flag over at the Weekend of Heroes, and were blown away by the amount of support Ai had at what was pretty much a regional show (I can honestly say, with hand on heart, Ai has cracked the US market and there's no stopping us now). The highlight of the weekend for me was meeting the legend that is Col. Danny McKnight, although staff writer Jason seemed rather more impressed with the girls from a nearby Hooters restaurant, who took up our invitation and joined us on our stand at the show. You can turn to page 40 to see what we got up to.

And the winners are? Yes indeed the nominations for the first annual Ai reader awards have been counted and we are ready to announce the winners (turn to page 11) but before you do that I wanted to talk about mindless vandalism and the consequences. If you've been a victim you'll know what it fells like? It seems that in today's society its pretty much the norm, but when such mindless acts strikes at the heart of Airsoft community with such devastating effects it makes you sit up and take stock I'm talking about Ambush Adventures Chobham site in Surrey which was burnt to the ground. It was heart breaking watching Charlie James sifting through the ashes of the building which made up the safe zone in a desperate hope to salvage something, anything, but it was simple all gone, all that remained of some 10 years worth of hard work was the metal bases of the building, but to add insult to injury these mindless thugs had also stolen anything of value before they torched the place

Take a look at us now!

Where does the time go? It only seems like yesterday we tentatively launched our magazine onto the UK airsoft market. Believe it or not that was over two years ago!

Now as we slide into Volume 3, Airsoft International is without a doubt the largest circulated and biggest selling airsoft publication in the western world, but we still have some availability issues. So we've been working closely with our airsoft trade partners and news stand distributor and can reveal that Ai is now available in an additional 100 WH Smith outlets! Overseas, our European airsoft trade has been boosted with the help of our good friends at ASG as of this issue they will be distributing Ai through their European retailers. And Stateside, Palco Sports have come on board adding a potential 2,000 retail trade outlets, whilst Spartan Imports will be distributing Ai to more than 200 airsoft trade outlets. We know that our US news stand circulation is somewhat erratic at the moment, but please bear with us, we are working hard to overcome the red tape that accompanies the US news trade and imported publications.

Why do players do it?

Cheat that is, Im going to kick off this issue with a bit of a moan, the rules of Airsoft Skirmishing are simple, if you get hit then your out. I know that sometime in the heat of a fire fight, it's a touch call to make, but even if you think your hit? Its your time. So walk back to the safe zone load up and get ready for the next game. I personally can't see what the problem is here? It's very black and white, but some players seem to play in a world of greys. I was horrified this month to find out that the UK might lose one of its most popular big games purely and simply down to cheating. So come on guys why do it? Airsoft skirmishing is all about being honest. What do you get out of cheating other than pissing off your opponents? DON'T DO IT Lets not get to the point where site operates throw in the tail, where then would Airsoft be in the UK?

Ai Never standing still One of the toughest part of Ai to write (for me) has always been the foreword. Don't ask my why? Because I don't know, well okay that's a lie I do know. This is the bit where publishers normally blow their own trumpets and tell you how wonderful their magazine is, but I don't have to do that because you already know. So what's been going on at camp Ai this month? We've hit a bit of a mile stone as my co directors joins the staff full time and takes charge of the admin side of things. Which is a huge relief I've got to tell you as it will free me up to concentrate on the commercial side of things and get Ai to where I've always wanted it to be (A 100 page plus publication)

90 Days and counting

That's all there is before the exception that the ABA forte so hard for UK players becomes law and there is still so much to do. Site Operators you really to need to tighten your belts, pull your fingers out and start thing about a registration system for your players. Its quite simple if a player is not registered, then he/she will not legally be able to purchase/ import AEG's or pistols. The ramifications for this are quite frightening, but very simple; no registered players will result in a decline in retailers as they will not be able to sell AEG's and or pistols, you might be sitting there things that alright because I import my hardware, you would be so wrong, because under the new legislation personal imports will only be permitted by HM Customs if you are a registered player.

There's no two ways about it, we (Airsoft) got lucky with the amendment, so come on guys lets not ride our luck any more. Players talk to your site operators lets all do the right thing and sign up
